The celebration of dance part II
A party dancer. I could not resist making these images after watching a truly exuberant dancer dancer at a party . These are oil paintings on 100cm x 800cm canvasses.
Celebration of Dance 2011 At Atelier 2
The first Exhibition of 2011 will be based around a series of dance images. These are deeply rooted in a true love of dance and these paintings are based on The Tango. Like many dances there are strong elements of passion and eroticism.

Sketches of the petits chemins
Sketches of les petits chemins derived from my earlier cavée drawings and paintings.
These are painted on small scraps of mount board 100 x 150mm
Small quick response watercolour sketches
I have enjoyed doing some tiny watercolour sketches on the back of the watercolour classes I have been running.
They are generally quick responses to the environment.

Watercolour Course
The new watercolour course has just started on the second block of five lessons. Because of the cold weather we have had to use still life in the atelier. Sometimes I use produce from the street market that is held every Wednesday morning just outside the atelier.
For beginners I have been encouraging them to get used to the feel of the materials and used to how watercolour behaves. The more experienced students have been encouraged to omit drawing in pencil and look for the shapes of the tonal values first. This is to free up their technique.
These are three demonstrations of one of the still lives. I normally do not do lengthy demonstrations in class as I firmly believe that students do not pay to watch paint dry. However to illustrate points did these.
This was painted without preparatory drawing & looking for the tonal values to start with.
I have followed this through in the second example also looking for colour in the dark values.
The third one has a preparatory drawing carried out with a brush and cadmium red.
