Quick nude studies in charcoal
Charcoal sketches are very liberating. I use charcoal & paper or dry pastel as often as I can as a process of freeing up the process before embarking on a studio painting. This is especially so when it comes to drawing from a live model.
Studies for portrait
I very often like using charcoal on paper to make initial studies for life paintings & portraits. It must be the oldest medium in history yet it is still a medium which is unmatched in flexibility. Capable of expressing strong statements as well as great subtlety.
